Krista Cameron Pottery and the Clay Studio Collective's Special Partnership
"A community pottery studio, run by potters!"
This idea took root in the Spring of 2023, with the news of our local college’s decision to permanently close its Ceramics Department. It had been a nucleus for potters and like-minded creatives in the Brockville and surrounding area for over 60 years. Many CSC members were part of this legacy, along with Krista Cameron herself, who started out as a student before becoming a head instructor at the college and going on to open her own private studio practice & teaching studio, Krista Cameron Pottery (KCP).
Have you heard of the saying that the student eventually becomes the teacher? Well in the case of the Clay Studio Collective, the students became the school!
This band of enthusiastic clay lovers and students, driven to see their ceramics community thrive, founded the Clay Studio Collective with the fierce support of Krista Cameron, who helped start many of their own clay journeys. She offered her technical knowledge and insight into the planning of the studio, from the start being boots-on-the-ground with the build!
Together, this partnership made the CSC what it is today: a welcoming place to gather, learn, and create. In friendship and a dedication to the ceramic arts, we share a space whose mission was to offer an accessible studio space to the public. We’re stronger when we stick together. (Like mud)!
Sharing a space that integrates individual membership and group teaching benefits everyone with the help of KCP. New and experienced potters get to mingle. We share housekeeping duties. We offer each other technical (and moral!) support. The list could go on! For the CSC Management and all Members, Krista is a fountain of experience and knowledge that we can lean on for every aspect of pottery and running a studio.
We feel lucky and proud that together we’ve created a unique and much needed, "third space” in our community, that prioritizes openness, trust, mutual-support, and friendship.
And thanks to our Members, Board of Directors, Volunteers, and Krista, whom is a Special Advisor to the Board (not to mention unwavering support for our Members), our special space continues to grow in this way!
We've done so much together! Check out some awesome CSC/KCP Collaborations over the years...
